Protect Your Home from Utah’s Scorpions

The beautiful scenery of Southern Utah’s red rock desert makes St. George and it’s surrounding areas a nice place to call home. However, nature has a way of bringing problems to your front door, and in this particular climate scorpions are known to thrive.

As temperatures rise, these venomous pests seek shelter, moisture and food, and the average home in the Utah desert provides scorpions with all three in plenty. Commonly hiding block walls, landscaping, and the other nooks and crannies of your property, a scorpion’s presence is a serious safety hazard for your family and your pets.

That’s why when Lava Rock Pest Control inspects your home, we don’t just look at the foundation. We provide Full Service Pest Control, conducting a wide sweep high-and-low, identifying all problem areas and uncovering the hidden spots that scorpions love to hide in, so when we get to the extermination phase, you know the job will get 100% done, guaranteed.

Signs of a Scorpion Infestation

Scorpions are nocturnal and excellent at playing hide-and-seek. Because they are rarely out in the open during the day, an infestation can grow before you even realize there are any around.

If you notice any of these signs, give Lava Rock Pest Control a call:

  • One Scorpion is Never Just One: seeing a scorpion in or around your property, even a dead one, is a bad sign that there are more hiding nearby.

  • Exoskeleton Shells: scorpions molt as they grow; finding small, pale, shell-like casings around your property is a strong sign of an active population.

  • Other Pests are Prey: as predatory creatures, if your property has crickets, roaches, or spiders crawling around, then you can expect scorpions too.

  • Glowing at Night: scorpion exoskeletons have a unique protein that causes them to glow under a UV blacklight. If you search your property at night with a blacklight and see a neon-like green or blue, you have an infestation.
